Hot Tub Volume and Chemical Dosing
Hot tub volume is essential for chemical dosing — and hot tub chemistry is less forgiving than pool chemistry. The small water volume means chemicals concentrate faster, pH swings are more dramatic, and mistakes are amplified. Knowing your exact gallon count is the foundation of proper hot tub maintenance.
Most manufacturer spec sheets list the tub's capacity, but if you're working with an older tub or one without documentation, measuring and calculating is the only option. The geometric calculation gives the total water volume — actual usable capacity is typically 70–80% of geometric volume because seats, jet housings, and plumbing take up space inside the tub.
