How to Calculate Gravel Cost
Gravel cost depends on three variables: the volume you need, the type of gravel, and whether you are paying by cubic yard or by ton. Use the main gravel calculator to find your cubic yards and tons, then multiply by your local supplier's price. Prices vary significantly by region and material type.
Gravel Price Reference (2026 National Averages)
- Crushed stone (3/4 inch) — $15 to $30 per ton; $25 to $50 per cubic yard delivered
- Pea gravel — $20 to $35 per ton; $35 to $55 per cubic yard delivered
- Crusher run / road base — $12 to $22 per ton; $20 to $40 per cubic yard delivered
- River rock / decorative — $30 to $60 per ton; $50 to $100 per cubic yard depending on size and colour
- Delivery fees — Typically $50 to $150 per load, sometimes included in per-ton pricing above minimum order quantities
Buying in Bags vs Bulk
- A 50 lb bag from a home centre: $5 to $8, covering about 0.5 cubic feet
- Equivalent cubic yard from a supplier: $25 to $55 delivered — 80% to 90% less per cubic foot
- The break-even point is roughly 1 cubic yard (about 1.5 tons). Below that, bags may be more practical if you cannot accept a bulk delivery. Above that, bulk is almost always the better economic choice.
