How to Calculate Cubic Feet
Cubic feet is the standard volume unit for construction materials in the United States. Concrete bags list their yield in cubic feet. Mulch, soil, and gravel are sold by the cubic yard (27 cubic feet). Storage containers and shipping boxes are measured in cubic feet. This calculator handles both directions: enter dimensions to get volume, or convert between volume units.
1 cubic foot = 1,728 cubic inches
1 cubic foot = 7.48 US gallons
1 cubic foot = 28.32 liters
1 cubic meter = 35.31 cubic feet
When You Need This Calculator
The most common use case: you know the dimensions of a space (a raised bed, a storage unit, a concrete form) and need the volume in cubic feet — then want to convert to cubic yards for ordering materials. A raised bed that's 4 × 8 × 1 foot is 32 cubic feet, or 1.19 cubic yards. That's the number you give your soil supplier.
The second most common: you have a volume in one unit and need it in another. Your concrete calculator gave you cubic yards, but the bag label says cubic feet per bag. Or you need to know how many gallons a container holds for a pool or tank calculation. This converter handles all of it.
